Mugen, originally named Genichi Yotsuba, is the first Major Gehennos, bearing the identity of Number I: The Magician. He is a mysterious figure who is manipulating some of the events in Hero's Justice: Kamen Rider Varia. He later serves as one of Shio Kurogami's trusted allies.

Character History[]

Past[]

Originally born Genichi Yotsuba, Mugen was unlike the other Major Gehennos who were born as a result of a Ventune. Instead, he was a normal human who was forcefully experimented on by Crollo's scientists 100 years ago, among many other test subjects. Genichi was the only one who survived, where he became the very first Gehennos who learned how to control the Arcane Gates. He was later released and was tasked to invade the Fahren State at the height of the Gehennos Wars, but his forces eventually fell during the battle and was believed to have been sealed inside the Arcane Symbol by one of the Seven Legendary Riders. However, he miraculously survived due to his unique ability of releasing himself from the Symbol. He would later spend the next 100 years observing humanity's peace and progress in the continent, vowing to help maintain it due to his eventual love for the lands.

Hero Legacy: Kamen Rider 00[]

Mugen first appears observing Remu Aiba as she tries to go on about her day. When she runs into a Nameless Gehennos, he nearly got himself involved, though Aya Ichinose's intervention lets him stay in the shadows for longer. Mugen would later take action after another Gehennos attack, using his summoned sword to fight off the monster, before convincing it to return to Fahren. However, Aya would aim her gun at him, asking if he's got anything to do with the new monsters. Mugen responds by conjuring a distraction and would disappear.

Choosing Shio[]

Upon returning to Fahren, Mugen would enact the first of his plans, invading the Knights of Delta headquarters to steal the Arcane Delta-Rise Driver from Kaoru Okada. He later gives the belt to Shio Kurogami, swapping it with the package he's to deliver, before making the delivery himself. He would later observe the proceedings, seeing Shio transform into a Kamen Rider for the first time, before quietly disappearing.

Mugen continues observing Shio during his investigation of Remu's parents' whereabouts, up until the varia faces a Gehennos Number who tries to absorb the mother's Gehennos Symbol. Mugen then enters a blank Arcane Symbol that Kamen Rider Varia picks up, letting him access Forma I-XI to defeat the evolved monster. He later manifests out of the Symbol and carries the unconscious Shio away after the latter was knocked out by Remu's mysterious powers manifesting; the Gehennos' power resonating with it as well.

Revealing Himself[]

Mugen would briefly himself to Shio during his fight with Kamen Rider Arc-en-Ciel, helping the varia escape, before sealing himself back inside an Arcane Symbol. Kamen Rider Varia would later use his powers to assume Forma I-XI-XVIII to defeat a Gehennos Number, though he would once again be confronted and overwhelmed by Arc-en-Ciel, who continuously shouts at Mugen to come out. Forced in a pinch, the Major Gehennos would materialize out of the Arcane Symbol to engage the navy Rider, once again helping Shio and Remu escape. This time, however, the varia would pin him by a wall and demand answers.

Personality[]

Initially, Mugen's personality and goals were left ambiguous to the other characters, only observing the events unfolding from a distance, while also manipulating some incidents/confrontations to better serve is unknown plans. Still, he was shown to be openly confrontational with the Knights of Delta, sabotaging some of their missions, while also showing some form of connection with their officers, such as Kaoru, Chitose, and Nijika.

He would later actively help Shio and Remu in their endeavors, though the two would still up their guard on him, upon learning that he's one of the Gehennos. When Remu was later outed as the Number XIV: Temperance, Shio eventually formed an uneasy alliance with Mugen, where the Gehennos also slowly opened himself up, showing that underneath his scheming, he is actually a chill and compassionate person who genuinely believes in protecting the people.

Skills and Abilities[]

  • Gehennos Release: Unlike the other Gehennos, Mugen has the ability to unseal himself and other Gehennos from an Arcane Symbol, all while keeping their identities and memories intact. Upon doing so, the Gehennos he releases could also opt to return to their former Symbols, so they choose to, though Mugen must unseal them again.
  • Master Swordsman: Mugen's use of the Summoned Swords as a weapon entails competence when using the weapon. He's also adept in dual-wielding and could juggle more swords.
