"My knowledge is supreme and unmatched! I am the greatest psychic in the world!"
―Solais' catchphrase[src]

"Say that again to my face and may the gods have mercy on your pitiful soul!"
―Megumi's catchphrase to anyone insulting her elderly appearance[src]

"God bless it!"
―Megumi's catchphrase whenever in a bad situation.

"That's because every time we fight as Kamen Riders, we are faced with the notion we are gambling with our lives and those we hold dear for the good of all living things in this planet! Because destiny itself allows you to shoulder the burden of being A) an ambassador of justice or, B) an agent of death and destruction. In order to protect this world, you must be willing to get your hands dirty for the greater good, even if you have to make sacrifices and the outcome of that could affect you for the rest of your life! In spite of all that, for one who has endured one unrelenting tragedy after another, all that pain, anger, and frustration can become strength, and strength into resolve!"
―Megumi's view on the harsh realities most Kamen Riders face.[src]

"I'm a horrible mother to begin with. Through your father's request in his dying breath to raise you, his children, to become valiant warriors. But, this is what the harsh reality of following the footsteps of the Shindai clan is about. In the end, I failed Ryuichi's last wishes... It was worth it... But, losing his children should be the last thing will happen to me! I don't care what happens to me, I will do everything in the fiber of my being to protect the family he left behind. More than anything than anyone else, even anywhere forever. I will always protect you two, my children...until in my last breath!"
―Megumi admitting her flaws as a mother but also assures that she cares and loves her adoptive children.[src]

Megumi Kamishiro (神代 恵 Kamishiro Megumi?) is the former supreme commander of the Rider Garrison and a former member of the Sword of Logos, and the previous Kamen Rider Sabela (仮面ライダーサーベラ Kamen Raidā Sābera?). However, Megumi becomes Sabela again after she sends Swartz back in time to murder Reika from an alternate timeline and steal a parallel isotope copy of the Eneiken Noroshi and Konchuu Daihyakka Wonder Ride Book, resulting in two Kamen Rider Sabelas to exist at the same time in the main timeline for a moment. Later, Megumi transforms into Kamen Rider Solais (仮面ライダーソライス Kamen Raidā Soraisu?) in her quest to get revenge against Isaac the current Master Logos, following her departure from the Rider Garrison, with her only loyal follower left being her aide Shinya Makizaki.

Megumi is also the stepmother of the Shindai siblings (Reika and Ryoga Shindai) having raised them after accidentally killing their father (who is also her cousin) during their sparring out of guilt; something that has since haunted her for the rest of her life. She has kept this in secret even from Taki and Ren, unaware of the fact that she secretly manipulates the two into killing her adoptive children. Megumi also implanted a neural chip on her stepson's brain in the event Master Logos prepares to set his plans into motion, and she can activate a trigger phrase that causes Ryoga to be under her control. Megumi would later form an uneasy alliance with Kaine in order to take down Isaac together; only to be manipulated by Kaine into ambushing his twin brother so he could covet the Omni Force Wonder Ride Book, and consequently betrays her. Realizing the mistakes of the path she has taken, Megumi rejoins the Terrestrial Defense Guardians (formerly the Rider Garrison) to stop Kaine and eventually reconcile with her adoptive children.

History[]

Megumi was once a high-ranking swordswoman of the Sword of Logos until during a fateful encounter with the Megid, Storious placed a curse on her, causing her to age rapidly into an old woman, as a result she severs her ties with the Sword of Logos; in the process relinquished the Eneiken Noroshi and Konchuu Daihyakka Wonder Ride Book out of shame, and established her private military contractor (PMC) group and employed mercenaries tasked in eliminating the Megid Rider Time: Kamen Rider Taki VS Sabela. At one point, Megumi had nursed an amnesiac Taki before the events of Kamen Rider Kenzan Gaiden: Legend of Snow White, she gave her the pseudonym Rena Iruma, and had the Fu-Ma Ninja employed to her organization until Taki regained her memories where they establish the name of their organization as the Rider Garrison.

As time passes, Megumi discovers the curse placed on her by Storious turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and thus gave her psionic powers. Megumi mastered her newfound psychic powers for the next ten years until the time comes she enacts her plans to get revenge against the entire Sword of Logos.

Personality[]

"This is a matter between me and my children. Please stay out of this."
―Megumi pushes Taki and Ren aside while she attempts to kill her adoptive children.[src]

"Your father in his dying breath told me to raise you and Reika to take up their legacy as guardians of Master Logos. But, little did you know that the current Master is nothing more but a power-hungry madman. And I suggest you turn away from him now."
"Why tell me this?"
"This does not have anything to do with my personal vendetta with him, I only tell you because I care for you and your sister as a foster parent. I have been your legal guardian at your father's request and raised you as if you were my own children. But, yet I'm a terrible mother.
"
―Megumi to Ryoga about the Shindai family's legacy and admits her flaws as a mother.[src]

In the past, Megumi used to be a kindhearted and passionate individual with an ardent devotion to the Sword of Logos's cause, until the tragic deaths of her close friends and the incident 15 years before the series that led to the deaths of many swordsmen and being cursed into a old woman by Storious, Megumi became a bitter and isolated person and has since been distrustful and distanced herself with the Sword of Logos in the aftermath of the tragedy. Since leaving the Sword of Logos, Megumi began to adapt into modern militaristic approach in eliminating the Megid. Even no longer associated with the guild, Megumi holds high regards to the Sword of Logos's standards as dedicated and passionate warriors, being down-to-Earth wise and knowledgeable, she admonishes and looks down on the current generation of swordsmen of the Northern Base with great disdain, especially Ren Akamichi, whose mindset is about the strong bringing justice to the weak, deems him unworthy of the Fuusouken Hayate going so far as expressing her disappointment at the previous Kenzan for it, which in turn developed into an animosity from the latter.

Behind closed doors, Megumi only cared about is her thirst for revenge, not caring for the lives of people she would indirectly endanger all for the sake of killing Isaac. She is not above manipulating even her own close allies to achieve her goals, like having Taki getting involved with the affairs of the Sword of Logos and using her godson Ren to have him work in the Southern Base.

Despite her ruthless methods, Megumi deep down is an honorable, caring and motherly-like person who value the lives of her soldiers above all else, always calm under pressure when confront by daunting adversities This is because that she raised the Shindai siblings at some point 15 years they become members of the Southern Base. However, Megumi's departure from the Sword of Logos what led to Ryoga and Reika becoming Master Logos's enforcers and had no other choice but to put them out of their misery if they are beyond redemption. However, Sophia reveals that Megumi is a very emotionally abusive and neglectful mother especially towards Reika during her time as a high-ranking swordswoman in the Sword of Logos and the harsh training she put her son into, so much so she deems him as her "Trojan horse" in her thirst for revenge. However, despite being caring only about revenge, Megumi refuses to let her former allies involved even if they stand in her way, so much so she is still fond of them and cares for their well-being due to being aware of the fact that she could endanger them if they continue to interfere. While normally calm, rational, and level-headed on the surface, Megumi is not without a tendency to lash out in a fit of rage by anything related to her dark past, this is best shown when she calls out Reika as a piece of trash and her existence being the reason of her mother's death as well the accidental death of the previous Durendal by her hands since she had a mutual friendship with the Shindai siblings' parents. Her animosity towards Reika would gradually mellow down after the latter learns Isaac's connections with the Megid and being chosen by Ultraman Gaia as the giant's light-bearer. However, this is not yet the case for Reika herself as she remains resentful and hostile towards Megumi for her abusive behavior.

Megumi's defining trait is her sheer willpower, due to having endured tragic events in her life and one of the factors to her mastery of her psychic powers even after she was cursed into becoming an old woman.

Additionally, due to her superior intellect and mastery of her psychic powers, Megumi displays symptoms of textbook narcissism, she has a very insufferable sense of self-worth, believing that her mind is unparalleled above all humans and she has so far never lost her composure even when confronted by opponents stronger than her. As Kamen Rider Solais, she begins the battle with her catchphrase, "My knowledge is supreme and unmatched! I am the greatest psychic in the world!" (私の知識は最高で比類のないもの。私は世界一番のサイキックだ! Watashi no chishiki wa saikō de hirui no nai mono. Watashi wa sekai ichiban no saikikku da!?) Storious notes that both Megumi and Isaac are no different than each other in the way they have been manipulating others from the shadows. The only main difference is from what Isaac excels in ambition, manipulation, and god complex, Megumi makes up for her gifted oratory skills, intellect, and the bluntness of her words.

Megumi's fatal flaw is her inability to reconcile with those who wronged her, indirectly or otherwise, resulting in perpetuating a long vicious cycle of hatred due to her immense grudge against Isaac, this even includes trying to kill her own adoptive children as vengeance by proxy even after the Shindai siblings' parents entrusted her to raise them, which in turn, especially in Reika's case, end up reciprocating that same animosity on a personal note. Her hatred for the current Master Logos is so intense, that the Fukutsuishiken Ishiryoku reacts by rejecting her in favor of a user with a pure and selfless heart, and Taki warns her even that if she succeeds in killing Isaac, regardless of the outcome, she will not only feel empty and miserable, but further descend into madness and become just as worse as Isaac. This character flaw is even exploited by Kaine, who gaslights her into forming a pact with him in order to kill Isaac, and realizes it too late when Kaine betrays her.

On a humorous note, Megumi takes offense at any insults poking fun at her old and wrinkly appearance, of which Ren and even Reika found out the hard way. Despite missing her youthful self, Megumi is used to her elderly appearance and it helped her for the better to other people to live their life to the fullest.

Family[]

  • Ryoga Shindai/Kamen Rider Durendal (II)- adoptive son
  • Reika Shindai/Kamen Rider Sabela (II) - adoptive daughter
  • Ryuichi Shindai/Kamen Rider Durendal (I) - cousin

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Psionics: Despite the rapid aging resulted from the curse inflicted on her by Storious 15 years ago, it also came a blessing in disguise for Megumi as it also gave her psychic powers. Upon her first experience with these newfound powers, Megumi had to master them for the span of 10 years. Even after briefly transforming into Sabela again, she used these powers against the current Sabela. As Kamen Rider Solais, she is capable of other psychic powers listed below:
    • Telekinesis: Megumi is capable of moving, manipulate or otherwise interact with objects/matter with her mind.
      • Telekinetic Strangulation: Megumi is capable of suffocating her opponents to death with her telekinesis by performing a one-hand strangulation hand gesture or just through her mind alone.
    • Telepathy: Megumi is capable of mentally communicating with other people, regardless of how far they are from her. She even does so to Master Logos while taunting him and declaring her vengeance against him.
    • Psionic Barrier: Megumi can generate force fields generated from her psionic energy.
    • Psionic Energy Blades: Megumi can produce energy blades using her psionic energy even without the need of using the Eneiken Noroshi nor the Fukutsuishiken Ishiryoku.
    • Psionic Puppetry: Using her psychic powers, Megumi can hijack the motor function of her opponent's body against their will as if they were marionettes, the victim remains conscious but their body is rendered under her control.
    • Clairvoyance: In a similar vein with Zi-O II's future sight powers, Megumi is capable of foreseeing and predicting her opponent's action provided they are unaware of her future sight powers and/or if they are slow enough to counterattack.
    • Levitation: Megumi is capable of floating, gliding, or levitation.
    • Telekinetic Super Speed: Megumi can move at a faster pace by enhancing her physical speed using her psychic powers.
  • Trigger Word Brainwashing: As a result of implanting a brainwashing microchip in Ryoga Shindai's brain when he was a boy, Megumi can put him under her control using a certain trigger phrase, in this case, the mere mention of referring him as "her son" (我が息子う waga musukou?) activates the neural implants, the brainwashing process successfully taking effect and Ryoga now is under Megumi's orders.
  • Hatred Empowerment: Megumi finds strength in her immense hatred towards Isaac and the Megid, so much so that she wants to spread the Ark's malice to empower herself. However, her reliance on hatred and other negative emotions associated with the Ark is also a double-edged sword as the Fukutsuishiken Ishiryoku will reject her due to the weapon being empowered by Ultraman Dyna's light. Also, this is also exploitable by Kaine, making Megumi be easily swayed by his offer to form an uneasy alliance with him and it's made apparent when Kaine betrays her after she leaves Isaac weakened and powerless.
  • Time Manipulation: Exclusively when using the Jikokuken Kaiji, Megumi can manipulate time. Unlike her adoptive son's, her time powers with the Kaiji behaves differently as this allows Megumi to accelerate time, something Kamen Rider Durendal could not do. On a side note, this causes Luna age rapidly from a child into a young adult, as well as regressing Storious into an infant.

The following powers Megumi previously used are attributed to her time as Kamen Rider Sabela:

  • Smoke Control: Using the Eneiken Noroshi, Megumi is capable of freely manipulating smoke and her suit is often seen emitting it.
    • Smoke Travel: By transforming into smoke, Megumi can move freely, allowing her to dodge attacks or quickly flee from a situation. She is also able to spirit away other people or objects along with her, making it appear as though they had vanished.
      • Intangibility: By transforming either her entire body or certain parts of it into smoke, Megumi can avoid attacks, which simply pass through her.

Abilities[]

  • Genius-level Intellect: Megumi possesses an astoundingly high IQ of 7500, especially through her stats as Kamen Rider Solais. This high amount of intelligence is impossible to achieve even for a normal human like herself, according to Master Logos and Sophia. This makes her one of the few Riders to possess such high intelligence, surpassing Takeshi Hongo, whose recorded IQ is 600.
    • Knowledge of past Kamen Riders and Ultramen: Like Tsukasa Kadoya, Megumi knows the existence of past Kamen Riders that come before Saber, this even extends to the Ultramen, the giants of light and shows awareness of many Ultras exist in multiple universes such as Tiga, Dyna, and Gaia.
  • Indomitable Will: A trait known during her time in the Sword of Logos, Megumi is a very determined and tenacious individual, possessing a willpower beyond human comprehension. Even after her rapid aging due to the curse placed on her by Storious, this willpower remained with her, and such trait allowed her to master her psychic powers over the course of 10 years.
  • Enhanced Photographic Memory: Part of her high intelligence, Megumi is capable of remembering great volumes of information in greater detail and for much longer than the average human at a meta level. She is aware of events of previous Rider series, such as the Sky Wall Disaster and Daybreak Town Accident, as well as the names of the previous swordsmen in the Sword of Logos.
  • Expert Swordsman: Being a former member of the Sword of Logos, Megumi is an expert swordswoman as both Sabela and Solais. Combined with her psychic powers, this makes Megumi as the most powerful swordswoman of all, being able to dispatch both Durendal and Sabela effortlessly. In a flashback, Megumi has also wielded the Jikokuken Kaiji in tandem with the Eneiken Noroshi.
  • Expert Marksman: Megumi is also adept in using modern firearms, coupled with her keen eyesight being able to fire weapons at a long range and even taking advantage of wind speed and calculating the bullet trajectory.
  • Enhanced Vision: Megumi has an exceptional peak human eyesight, coupled with her usage of firearms, she possesses impeccable aiming skills when wielding marksman rifles with peerless concentration.
  • Expert Manipulator: Megumi is cunning and capable enough to manipulate people to do her bidding, these are one of the traits that are inherited by her stepdaughter. Unlike Reika though, she has pitted both the Sword of Logos and Rider Garrison into fighting against each other to draw out Master Logos and has done the same to Taki and Ren (and by extension, the entire Northern Base) so she could personally eliminate her children and the current Master Logos.

Weakness[]

  • World of ZenkaigerIcon-crosswiki: The World of ZenkaizerIcon-crosswiki has a strange universal presence that seals the powers of Ultras' (be it Ridewatches and Wonder Ride Books) upon entry, rendering them unusable until they leave that world. Megumi is unable to transform into Solais when traveling in the Zenkaigers' universe, and knows it well since her Seiken is bound to the powers of Ultraman Dyna. This was temporarily circumvented when she borrows the Eneiken Noroshi from Reika, and becoming Sabela for a while.
  • Rikidouken Dynsabela: Even though Megumi has the willpower to handle the Rikidouken Dynsabela, her aging body, however, cannot handle the physical strain, to point that the backlash in her attempt to transform into Dynsabela leaves her permanently paralyzed and unable to transform into Solais.

Konchuu Daihyakka (昆虫大百科 Konchū Daihyakka?) is Sabela's bug-based primary form accessed by using the Konchuu Daihyakka Wonder Ride Book in the Eneiken Noroshi. Megumi was the original wielder of the Eneiken Noroshi before being passed on by Reika Shindai, but gains a parallel isotope copy of the Seiken and Wonder Ride Book after sending Swartz into the past and have the Reika from an alternate timeline murdered.

In this form, Sabela outclasses Saber Primitive Dragon in every area, but with the exception of a slightly slower running speed. However, Primitive Dragon's purely ferocious combat style gives it a noticeable edge against Sabela's graceful techniques. Being the swordswomen of smoke, she can teleport by turning into a mass of smoke, and become intangible by turning some parts of her body to smoke itself. Through the use of her Wonder Ride Book, she can sprout butterfly wings or spider legs from her back, and spew spider silk from her hands.

Due to Megumi using a parallel isotope version of the Eneiken Noroshi and Konchuu Daihyakka, Megumi possesses a fighting style different than the current Sabela, she always wields the Noroshi left handed and is also armed with a A.I.M.S. Shotriser for extra firepower. Additionally, Megumi makes use of Legend Riders' Wonder Ride Books and augment their attributes to her own, such as using Kabuto's Kunaigun or Perfect Zecter.

Allies[]

  • Shinya Makizaki/Kamen Rider Gram: TBA
  • Ryoga Shindai/Kamen Rider Durendal (II): Her stepson. Megumi raised him and Reika at the request of Ryuichi Shindai, their father and Megumi's cousin. Ryoga apparently is aware that Megumi did killed his father by accident, but was kept secret when a microchip implanted on his brain was activated, which causes him to fall under her control. Also, through their father's request, Megumi raised Ryoga and Reika to be enforcers of anyone who takes on the title of Master Logos. Little what Ryoga know that she takes advantage of this through a trigger phrase by brainwashing her own adoptive son into assassinating Isaac. However, this fails when the Ark's malice inadvertently negated the brainwashing. After defecting to Touma Kamiyama's team, Ryoga is the first to finally bury the hatchet with his stepmother.
  • Reika Shindai/Kamen Rider Sabela (II): Her stepdaughter. One should take note that Megumi's younger self resembles Reika. Megumi raised her and Ryoga at the request of her father, the previous Time Swordsman. Unlike Ryoga, Reika was never given the love and care from her stepmother, this is because that her mother died after giving birth to her, of which Megumi justifying her animosity towards Reika, even going as far as to call her a "pathetic little wench". Even after Isaac reveals his true colors to the Shindai siblings, Megumi acknowledges the fact that both of her children saw the error of their ways. Reika, however, refuses to forgive her for everything she has done, to which Megumi replies that she has no time to ask for forgiveness considering that she has come too far and she can only find closure once she kills Isaac. When she fails to get revenge on Isaac due to Kaine's betrayal, Megumi attempts to reconnect to her adoptive children, with Ryoga slowly warming up to her, but is aware of the fact that they still haven't forgotten nor forgiven her for the parental abuse she has done to them. After the final battle against Baruvados, the two finally reconcile, but Reika still calls Megumi with her name rather than referring to her as "mother".
  • Ryuichi Shindai/Kamen Rider Durendal (I): Her cousin and is the closest within the Shindai clan. Megumi accidentally killed Ryuichi during a sparring, where in his dying breath entrusts her to look after his children. Since then, her guilt of killing her own cousin by accident still haunts her to this day.

Enemies[]

  • Isaac/Master Logos/Kamen Rider Solomon: Megumi bears an intense hatred towards Isaac for all the tragedies that she had been through, of which he is, indirectly or otherwise, responsible. Of note, she is the only one to have known his real name. Since then, both of them are no better manipulating others for their own personal gain. Megumi will do anything to get to Isaac and kill him personally, despite warnings from her former allies not to go down the path of revenge.
  • Kaine/Satanos/Kamen Rider Mephisto: Megumi formed an uneasy alliance with Kaine after the latter bargains her to kill Isaac together. Megumi, however, is adamant of trusting Kaine and is aware of the similarities between him and his twin brother. She likewise threatens to kill him next once she succeeds in doing so to Isaac.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Megumi Kamishiro is portrayed by Takami Yoshimoto (吉本 多香美 Yoshimoto Takami?) who is best known for her portrayal of Rena Yanase in Ultraman Tiga. Takami Yoshimoto previously appeared as one of the civilians in Kamen Rider Zi-O NEXT TIME: Kamen Rider Taki, Final Chapter. Her younger appearance during flashbacks is portrayed by Mei Angela (アンジェラ 芽衣 Anjera Mei?), who portrays Reika Shindai in Saber's main TV continuity. As Kamen Rider Sabela and Kamen Rider Solais, her suit actress is Motoko Nagino (梛野 素子 Nagino Motoko?).

Etymology[]

  • As with the naming scheme of all the Saber Riders, Solais is based on Claíomh Solais, also known as the Sword of Light, a trope object that appears in a number of Irish and Scottish Gaelic folktales.
  • As with members of the Sword of Logos, Megumi's surname is Kamishiro (代) includes the Kanji character "kami" meaning "god" or "deity". In addition to her connection with the Shindai siblings, "Shindai" (神代?) can be also be written as "Kamishiro" (神代?). Her first name is taken from the phrase "God's graces" or "blessings from God" (神の恵み Kaminomegumi?).
    • Coincidentally, her actress's first name (Takami Yoshimoto) also contains an homophone to "god".

Notes[]

  • Megumi is one of two former members of Sword of Logos whose actress is not from a previous Sentai. The other being Tatsuya Yagami as they are both cast members from Ultraman Tiga--Takami Yoshimoto portrayed Rena Yanase, and Shigeki Kagemaru portrayed Tetsuo Shinjoh.
  • Takami Yoshimoto's father, Susumu Kurobe, who is famous for the character Shin Hayata in the original Ultraman series, also portrayed a villain in Kamen Rider Black, Professor Hideomi Kuromatsu.
  • Megumi is the first Rider since Shinobu Katsuragi to regain the ability to transform into the Rider identity currently assumed by their successors and simultaneously appear at the same time with the other.
  • The idea of Megumi regaining her powers as Sabela by having Swartz travel back in time and kill an alternate timeline version of Reika to create a parallel isotope copy of her Seiken and Wonder Ride Book brings to mind Absolute Tartarus's ability to create parallel isotopes of Ultraman villains that are currently deceased (i.e., Ultraman Belial & Ultraman Tregear). This act of meddling with the timeline doesn't erase Reika's existence, however due to having two Sabelas appearing at the same time can cause a divergence between the prime timeline and the alternate timeline where Swartz created the parallel isotope version of Sabela's gear.
  • Much like Daichi Kamijo and even Kento Fukamiya who both transformed into Kamen Rider Calibur, Megumi is the only former member of the Sword of Logos to transform into two different Rider forms and powers, as she was the original Kamen Rider Sabela, and currently Kamen Rider Solais.
  • Keeping up with the books and storytelling themes of Kamen Rider Saber, the way Storious places a curse on Megumi that resulted her into becoming an old woman is based on the Evil Queen (particularly in the form of an old woman), the main antagonist of Snow White, a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm (fitting that Snow White is also another plot point of Kenzan Gaiden).
  • Initially, Megumi is written to be Reika's true identity as the real one who was aged into an old woman by Storious. However, in light of the debut of Reika's brother, Ryoga Shindai, Megumi is instead re-written to be their stepmother.
  • Despite being a former member of Sword of Logos, Solais's suit also has a Royal Sword of Logos equipped as her belt. Perhaps this is to symbolize her connection to Reika and Ryoga as their adoptive mother and legal guardian.
  • Solais' undersuit is a repaint of Kamen Rider Zero-One's Rise Architecter, while the helmet is retooled from Sabela's, modified even further to resemble Ultraman Dyna's head.
  • In Rider Time: Kamen Rider Taki VS Sabela and flashbacks in Kenzan Gaiden, Megumi's younger appearance is portrayed by Angela Mei, who portrays Reika Shindai in the Kamen Rider Saber TV series proper. Although, at one point, Takami Yoshimoto herself had to portray Megumi as a young adult in a flashback through a computer-generated image (CGI) render of her 24 year old self.
    • Angela Mei portraying Megumi's younger self is not the first instance that an actor portraying a main role is also acting for the role of the younger appearance of a character in a flashback, as Masaki Suda, who portrayed Philip, also portrayed a teenage Katsumi Daido.
  • Megumi is the first and currently the only Kamen Rider character to use the Japanese pronoun "Watakushi" (私 (わたくし)?) as opposed to the usual "Watashi" (?).
  • Solais is the only Saber Rider whose Seiken has no elemental affinity, but instead are associated with common superhuman powers (i.e., telekinesis, super strength, and super speed).
