Keinosuke Hagiwara (also referred to as the "fairy baker" Pikario) is a young confectioner who transforms into Snack Warrior Gâteau. As of episode 24, he is also a student at Collège Françoise Dupont alongside the other five Snack Warriors.
He is also known by his nickname of the "Genius Pâtissière" due to his spell of working in Tokyo, Japan before paying a visit to Paris for a special demonstration of his talents.
History
Preseason
Keinsouke, born as Pikario, used to live with his twin sister Kirarin on Strawberry Mountain, where the two shared their love of making desserts together. Desiring for improvement and becoming Legendary Pâtisseries, they travelled to Tokyo, Japan to be trained under Aiko Yoshida while residing in an attic, in which he later got scouted and was educated more by a man named Isamu. However, after Pikario acquired his human form because of his efforts, he began bragging about his future goals, but was oblivious to how he had wounded Kirarin's self-esteem, which led to her ultimately abandoning him.
Arriving In Paris And Opening His Pop-Up Shop
Keinosuke arrives in Paris from Tokyo to open his pop-up shop The Royal Golden Moon. He is then seen near Strawberry Mountain and turns back into his fairy form Pikario, appearing upset. Later that day, now Keinosuke again, he appears at a fruit stand in the shopping district the Snack Warriors were shopping at and startles them, wearing only a pair of sunglasses to conceal his identity as a famous patissière. He soon reveals his identity, causing a crowd to draw around him and the Sweet Tooth group to be shocked at being in his presence. He then announces that he will open a shop there for a limited time and hold a special demonstration for the spectators.
The next day, the Snack Warriors come by to see Keinosuke, and are marvelled by his ability to create fancier sweets than the ones that they are used to seeing. Theo is so impressed that she asks Keinosuke if he could be his apprentice, but he immediately turns the offer down.
Keinsouke later demonstrates a live cook-off, which impresses the townspeople. He once again turns down Theo's request about looking at his skills, but he gets to know Theo better as a person when exploring the countryside to collect ingredients with him. His fancy pancakes are a big hit with the audience. Just as the atmosphere of the show is heating up, Keinosuke almost gets harmed by Édouard who turns his doll into a monster, until Snack Warrior Gommeux comes to the rescue, establishing his budding admiration. Afterwards, Keinosuke is surprised why Theo's pancakes, albeit ordinary, are able to have an abundance of Flavour Spark energy.
Revealing His Identity As A Fairy And Aspiration To Become A Snack Warrior
Upon witnessing the Snack Warriors' battle with Édouard, Keinosuke forms an even stronger admiration for them, and his faith is affirmed after they rescue him, though he is oblivious to the fact that his heroes are actually Theo and the others.
Theo meets him as a fairy when visiting his shop, but is unaware that Pikario is indeed Keinosuke. That night, while Theo and the others are teaching the other fairies how to bake something, Keinosuke decides to reveal his true identity as a fairy in front of the Snack Warriors and his fellow fairies after realizing that none of his fairy companions can recognize him in his human form, much to the astonishment of the humans, especially Theo.
He instantly begs Theo to train him into becoming a Snack Warrior after watching them transform in front of him, helping them by protecting them from an attack from Édouard and being rescued by them after reverting into his fairy form once again, though Gommeux has no idea how to do so.
Reconciling With His Sister And Becoming Snack Warrior Gâteau
After learning that Aurélie was his twin sister Kirarin the whole time, Pikario feels glad upon reuniting with her but he ends up being coldly rejected by Aurélie. Pikario then tearfully tells his backstory between him and Kirarin to the human Snack Warriors. He starts beating himself up for being unable to understand his sister's emotional agony that made her go astray although Gommeux purifies Aurélie with some help from TBA.
Keinosuke self-hatred overpowers his ambition and motivations of improving himself as a pâtissier and becoming a Snack Warrior, and his Flavour Spark ends up being taken by Mademoiselle Obscurité consequently, making him succumb to endless despair. However, after tasting Kirarin's failed macarons, Keinosuke begins to empathize with his sister and makes her a "Pegasus Strawberry Shortcake" upon recalling the memory of how she baked him one to comfort him after his favorite whisk broke.
He ultimately gains his Sweets Pact and his Pegasus Shortcake turns into his Junkie, allowing him to become Snack Warrior Gâteau with the hopes of healing Kirarin, who is mortally wounded by Obscurité's arrow. After Kirarin's rod is purified and becomes the Gâteau Baton, Gâteau takes it and is able to incapacitate Édouard, who merged with his doll. He then uses his newfound attack, Ichi・Ni・Sanbarashii! Miracle・Rainbow!, to purify and send Édouard flying. After the battle ends, Kirarin appears to fade away in a stream of Flavour Spark, which flies up to Strawberry Mountain's shrine so she can recover, but it still leaves the Snack Warriors, especially Gâteau, extremely saddened.
New Start As Snack Warrior Gâteau
After Danny informs him that Kirarin is being protected by the ancient Snack Warrior's Flavour Spark, Keinosuke wishes that Kirarin will recover and vows to strive harder so that she will feel proud of him when she wakes up. He and the other Snack Warriors then receive the sacred messages from the ancient Snack Warrior and Theo encourages him that everything will be different with him on the team. Later on, when Keinosuke continues to vow on working more diligently himself, he is amazed by a group of passersby who are training for Danny's karate lesson and joins them and is glad to meet Theo at the same time until she worries about getting hungry upon smelling the curry, though fortunately Theo has cooked enough curry to satisfy his hunger. The next day, wanting to learn more about Theo's life, he transfers himself to Collège Françoise Dupont and thanks to his fame as the Patessire Prodigy and excellence on solving a mathematical question and able to dunk a basketball in mathematics and P.E. class respectively, he quickly earns admiration from his classmates. But things begin to go awry for her in the Chinese lesson due to his lack of knowledge on the language and they only get worse because after he was offered some lunches from the heroes classmates, he can't restrain his hunger and reverts back into Pikario, which causes him to be mistaken for a weird animal and gets chased by everyone at school, but he has a narrow escape thanks to Theo, Jules and Céline, who distract their classmates and even the principal. There, he finally confesses his weakness of forcibly turning back into fairy form when hungry and feels ashamed of the chaos he has caused, but his friends still help him out by feeding him a portion of their lunches. Gâteau tries to repent her mistake during the battle with Blaise with his Gâteau Baton but gets overpowered until he accepts his friends' assistance. After turning into Pikario again as the battle concludes, Theo announces it's snack time and with Keinosuke being fed, he bakes baby bird cupcakes together with his friends and officially joins the Sweet Tooth Candy Shop.
Relationship With Édouard
During the time when he and his friends are stranded on an island, Keinosuke as Pikario comes across Édouard, who also suffers from the same fate. Édouard tries to attack him with Iru but to no avail. After his friends make some shaved ice for him to taste, he wants to share the penguin-like dessert with Édouard so that the latter won't be lonely any longer. However, after Iru merges with the shaved ice, he and his friends have to become Snack Warriors to go against Édouard, and during the battle Gâteau realizes that Édouard is greatly saddened by Mademoiselle Obscurité's absence, so he later rescues Édouard, who is flabbergasted by his kindness. After he purifies Iru and soon de-transforms, Keinosuke offers the dessert to Édouard, only to be coldly rejected and watches the Flavour Spark being absorbed into Iru's body, before finding out that his sphere has become the Pegasus Crystal Animal right after Édouard flies away on the back of giant Iru. Although he is slightly upset by Édouard's rejection, he and Theo believe that Édouard will accept their friendship one day.
Convincing Solaine
Keinosuke's mentor Solaine visits and criticizes him for being in Paris which isn't as top class as Tokyo before asking him to join an upcoming baking contest in the Japanese capital. Keinosuke later explains that Solaine means well despite being pushy, until Theo asks about his true dream. This makes Keinosuke reconsider and with Édouard's unintentional advice, he decides to make some pumpkin puddings, allowing his friends to add a hamster topping the next day after the battle with Daphné. In the end, Solaine, after tasting the pudding, is impressed by how much he has grown and lets him stay with his friends and even invites all of them to take part in the contest.
Reconciling With Aiko
During the movie, Keinosuke meets his mentor Aiko again when he is participating in a sweets-making contest. However, Keinosuke is saddened when Aiko has become more nonchalant than he remembers her for, especially when she tells him her disappointment over his lost skills. Despite being weakened by Cook's powers, Gâteau and his friends still try to save Aiko, who is fused with the Ultimate Sweet. Gâteau is able to break the curse Cook imposed onto him, and manages to turn Aiko back to normal after giving the Mille-feuille he baked with his friends and advising her to start accepting new apprentices. With that, Keinosuke is able to mend his relationship with Aiko.
Understanding Kirarin
Keinosuke tries becoming reacquainted with Kirarin by giving her lots of love. When Kirarin is wrongly accused for stealing Flavour Spark, Keinosuke attempts to help her out, despite feeling troubled for being involved. Kirarin then isolates him whilst blaming herself while running away in frustration.
While his friends distract the villains, Keinosuke catches up with Kirarin and forbids her from leaving. She insists that it is none of his business and only wants to run away, still feeling guilty for what she had done in the past. He knows that Kirarin is in denial of how much he loves making sweets from the chocolate macarons she left at Caesar's altar. Kirarin then admits that she regrets allowing her jealousy to damage their relationship. Keinosuke forgives her and is willing to help her out.
With his newfound strength, Gâteau is able to defeat Daphné. The shopkeepers apologize to Keinosuke for accusing his sister and he forgives them, even letting Kirarin give them macarons as their relationship appears to improve.
Epilogue
Years later, Keinosuke and Kirarin become renowned pâtissières of their co-op shop and participate in various competitions around the world.
Personality
Sweet, lively, and generous, Pikario is said to be a genius patissière who wishes to make others happy through the sweets that he makes. He is extremely diligent and always sought for improvement in order to become perfect as shown during his time as an apprentice in his fairy form, and his efforts paid off as he acquired the ability to transform into a human, which he goes under the name of Keinosuke Hagiwara.
However, success soon blinded Keinosuke, and she began to neglect the bond between him and his sister Kirarin, which led to their estrangement. He was truly overwhelmed by his guilt and self-hatred of not understanding her like Theo does, which turned out to be his fatal weakness and begot to the loss of his dream after Mademoiselle Obscurité stole his Flavour Spark, but fortunately he then overcame his sadness after tasting one of his sister's failed shortcakes and learned to understand Kirarin's feelings with a deeper comprehension.
Also, Keinosuke's desire of achieving perfection by relying on only himself so as to avert embarrassment can be an obstacle for him. For example, he refused to admit how he always reverts back into fairy form when he gets extremely hungry, which ignited mass panic at school. But as the series progresses, he begins to accept help from his friends and learn how to cooperate with them.
Overall, Keinosuke/Pikario is a caring and goodhearted young man who not only cares for his sister and friends, but also his enemies. For example, he treats Édouard with kindness during his encounters with the latter and even rescuing the latter courageously.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayal
- Keinosuke is portrayed by Yasunari Fujibayashi who is best known for playing Supana Kurogane in Kamen Rider Gotchard. As Gâteau, his suit actor in the Gavv stock footage (like the other Snack Warriors) is Yuya Nawata (縄田 雄哉, Nawata Yūya).
- AUTHOR'S NOTE: I picked Fujibayashi cause I found out he could speak English fluently so its a similar reason as to why I picked Hiro Mizushima (Tendo from Kabuto) to play Master Asia in Battle Warriors.
Etymology
- Gâteau is the French word for "Cake" which makes sense as it matches the suits main motif.
