Kamen Rider Zi-O: Over the Void (仮面ライダージオウ: オーバー・ザー・ボイド Kamen Raidā Jiō: Ōbā zā Boido) is an animated series that serves as both a collaboration between Toei Company, Dengeki Bunko, and SEGA, as well as an adaptation of the manga of the same name that celebrated the imprint's 25th anniversary. It also serves as an unofficial part of the Kamen Rider the Animation series, mostly due to the animation being produced by A-1 Pictures and not Toei Animation and Walt Disney Television Animation much like the other entries in the series. It also features several characters from various SEGA properties to commemorate the company's 60th anniversary.

Character design was done by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, who had done work for the .hack// series and the Neon Genesis Evangellion manga, while the music was composed by Yuki Kajiura, whose best known for the Sword Art Online anime.

Plot[]

"It has been 20 long years for the Heisei Era and the Riders who have become legends in the making. However, the Void contains other worlds that are under attack because of new Time Jackers. Traveling into these worlds, a new Zi-O shall be crowned in order to save these 20 worlds and ensure history follows its correct path!"
―Opening blurb

Haruno Kiba was an ordinary boy who liked to read light novels in his spare time. Having found himself enraptured by the tales of heroes and various genres, he always wanted to write down his own light novel when he grew up. However, he is chosen by a organization known as the Void Protection Organization to protect worlds based on the Light Novels he has read. Armed with his own Ziku Driver and Zi-O Ridewatch, Haruno must work with mechanic Mika Haruhi to save the worlds!

Episodes[]

All episodes in Kamen Rider Zi-O: Over The Void are referred to as "Times." The dates on most of the episodes are references to the real life release of each series' first volumes. Although for cases like Sword Art Online, the date instead refers to the first release of SAO as a Web Novel in 2002 instead of the Light Novel release date. For the Future Rider episodes, the first episode of each arc is the date that the light novel world takes place in; while the second episode's date is the year that Future Rider came from.

Notes[]

  • Kamen Rider Zi-O: Over the Void the first appearance (or return in some cases) of several series characters in animated form. They include...
    • Valvarave the Liberator since the completion of the Sunrise anime in 2013.
    • Persona X Detective Naoto since it's publication in 2012 to mixed-to-negative reviews.
    • Kizuna Kasugai and Kibou Satou since the release of Dengeki Gakuen RPG: Cross of Venus in 2009.
      • Coincidentally, this anime also shares a similar structure to that game where the heroes travel to different light novel worlds whose stories have become distorted.
    • Rust–Eater Bisco is a unique case as it's appearance here predates the release of the anime in 2022
  • Due to the COVID Pandemic in 2020, episode 7 was delayed for a couple of months from it's initial air date
