Kamen Rider Devdas (仮面ライダーデヴダス Kamen Raidā Devudasu?) is a Japanese Tokusatsu drama in Toei Company's Kamen Rider Series. It is the fifth series to debut in the Reiwa Era and the thirty-forth overall, and serves as the first official Kamen Rider Series by Volt2002Alfred. The series premiered on September 3, 2023, joining Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger
in the Super Hero Time line-up after the finale of Kamen Rider Geats. Starting on March 2024, the series was joined in the Super Hero Time line-up by Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. After the finale of Kamen Rider Devdas, Boonboomger will air alongside Kamen Rider Krrish in the Super Hero Time block.
The series' catchphrase is The eternal awaits, divide until we stand... (永遠が待っている、私たちが立つまで分割する... Eien ga matte iru, watashitachi ga tatsu made bunkatsu suru...?)
The show’s theme revolves around animals, elementals, weapons, discs, the Indian concept and related with Brahmastra.

Development[]
Devdas was originally inspired from the Bengali romance novel with the same name to appeal to their target audience. The idea of Kamen Rider Devdas first came to Kinoshita while writing the script for his first series Kamen Rider Revice, and taking a lots of the script as the scene on the novel of the same name. At the time, the series was originally titled Kamen Rider Shakti. In May 2022, Kamen Rider Devdas was officially announced its name by producer Karan Johar and Taku Mochizuki, and making it in a secret before its trademark are announced.
On January 2023, Ayan Mukerji would later join as the main producer and writer of the series alongside with Johar and Mochizuki and he also had an inspiration. Johar and Mochizuki also agreed to changed its inspirations for the series to the Astraverse-related with a massive visual effects and make it an epic Kamen Rider series that Mukerji spoke of earlier, and the main writer Kinoshita later accepted the inspiration for the series.
While development this series, Mochizuki and Mukerji confirmed that the series will be inspired by making it as "Kamen Rider Agito 2.0" after being scrapped in Kamen Rider Gotchard and also confirming it that the series will be revolves around with the Indian concept as the show's theme and to be related with Indian Hindi-language fantasy action-adventure film, Brahmastra.

In February 2023, Kinoshita, Johar and Mochizuki approached Souta Uemura for the role of Shuichiro Kawaguchi. But due to undisclosed reasons, Uemura rejected the role and left. The role was offered to Ryu Shirahama. Unfortunately, Shirahama denied and rejected the role once again due to personal reasons. Upon their refusal, the role was offered once again to Taiga Otsuka. Then, Otsuka were later confirmed to join the set and accepted the role as Shuichiro as well.
In March, the news reportedly that both Mashiho Takata and Asuka Saito were rumored to be lead cast for the series, the status of the both cast are unknown if they would selected. Later revealed that both Haruto Watanabe and Kaya Kiyohara played as the main lead after Otsuka and will be officially join the set on early April 2023, by replacing Takata and Saito. According to Saito, she would join the set for the series later as the new characters, as soon as possible if she needed, while Takata are unable to participated in any upcoming project of the series.
The other casts will set joined after the three lead casts are revealed, and will be revealed in the press conferences in August.
Post Production[]
Later, Toei Company announced that they had collaborated with Prime Focus Co. Ltd to making the series, as well as for the visual effects that inspired from Brahmastra. Toei Company and Prime Focus confirmed and filed the trademark for Kamen Rider Devdas on May 20, 2023. On June 10, 2023, the copyright trademark updated to reveal the official title card of the show with Kamen Rider Devdas. Advance screenings of Kamen Rider Geats: 4 Aces and the Black Fox revealed on September 3, 2023 premiere date for Devdas along with a short-story teaser.
A press conference was held on August 9, 2023, revealing Taiga Otsuka, Haruto Watanabe, Kaya Kiyohara, Yosuke Sugino, Masaki Okada and Drive's co-star Rio Uchida as main cast members, as well as ATEEZ as theme song artists with title track Inception, while Hiroya Shimizu, Shori Sato and Koya Matsudai had joined the set as the main antagonists of the series. On August 13, 2023, it was announced that both, the Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji and Soko Wada had joined the cast as Meera and Taki, respectively. It also marks Rani Mukerji make her acting debut in non-Hindi drama and film. On August 20, 2023, it was announced that Reo Sano and Moka Kamishiraishi had joined the cast as Zenki and Daina, respectively, and later confirming that Geats's co-star Kokoro Aoshima would return and reprising her role as Tsumuri, but with a new role and personality.
The director said, the VFX work of this series is done by DNEG- Prime Focus company. Editing was supervised by some staff of TOEI Company. Jam8 music and sound design studio lead by Pritam and Kotaro Nakagawa provided sound effects. VFX studio DNEG and ReDefine's foreign team created visual effects.
Filming[]
The filming for the series Kamen Rider Devdas are commenced in May 14, 2023. According to Karan Johar, the film were majority shoots in several places in India, such as at New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and including the Nuranang Falls (the Jang Falls), Sela Lake near Jang Town north of Sela Tunnel/Sela Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh and many more. The series also take a shoots in several places of Japan, such as Tokyo, Aichi and Osaka.
Like Shin Kamen Rider, several sequences in the series were shot using iPhones and GoPros, mimicking current cinematic methods with camera motions, lens sizes, perspectives, and zoom time, with the standard ratio.
The filming for the series would later wrapped and concluded on May 23, 2024, after a year and nine days of shooting.
Plot[]
A thousand years ago, Immortal Army were the main enemies of the world, who battle against the humans. Above all else, all of the humans and the warriors are battling against their greatest enemy during the Battle of Eternity. With this result, the humans bargain their victory against the demons since their champions were sealed by preventing the world were vanish. Many years have passed since the mortal races banded together and stood united against the might of the Immortal Army. A Japanese-Indian descent man named Shuichiro Kawaguchi will aiding them to stop Immortal Army by invading the world once again and he transformed as Kamen Rider Devdas by creating through the fire power. Though the world was saved, the tenuous pact between the warriors and demons has all but evaporated. The drums of the war thunder once again!
