Dream Team (届きます! 最初のギアシフト! Todokimasu! Saisho no Gia Shifuto! lit. "Obtained It! The First Gear Shift!") is the third episode of Kamen Rider NXT. It is the second part of the Super Mario tribute arc and the debut of Kamen Rider NXT Super Mario Gear Shift.

Summary[]

With a newfound courage in his soul, Alex, Mario and Luigi venture into Peach's Castle in order to revert it back into Oakwood Academy and save Mikey, aka Mecha Mario, from himself.

Plot[]

At the Peach's Castle Hazard Area, Mecha Mario is having his weapons repaired after Spark had damaged them in the previous episode. As the Puppet Fighter began to seethe about his near defeat, he soon thought back to before he was a Puppet Fighter, but rather a bully victim named Mikey that has been bullied for years by a man named Bart.

However, one day, he was approached by a man who offered him power in exchange for telling him his deepest desire. Of course, he wanted to make sure that no person would be hurt him again, and thusly he was transformed into Mecha Mario, while his school, Oakwood Academy, became Peach's Castle.

Back with the heroes, Alex and Mario soon arrive as they meet up with Luigi, Polterpup, and Princess Peach. Lia soon relays to him that Mecha Mario is currently located at the center of the castle. After thanking him for the information, Alex asks Jake and Katy how they were doing as he was, worried about him after they got smacked around by the Puppet Fighter. Jake dissuaded the Rider's fears and told him that they were okay and on the way to recovery.

With that behind him, the four enter the Hazard Area, fighting off several of Bowser's troops in the process. During their trek, Peach soon notes that she was an accomplished mage during her time, which Alex notes to be true given that she, Mario, and Luigi are three of the seven Star Children. Mario soon notes that to be true, but says that their power is nothing compared to the seven Grand Heroes.

This confused the boy as he never heard of the Grand Heroes, to which Mario told him that the Grand Heroes are said to be the chosen guardians of the Cyber World, utilizing their mastery over the elements to keep the world safe from danger.

When he asked how these heroes could be found, the quartet soon arrive at the throne room, where Mecha Mario is waiting for them. The Puppet Fighter soon noted as he looked at the young boy and notes that he's got balls to return to him after what he had done in the past few hours or so.

Alex soon asks why he's doing this, to which the Puppet Fighter states that the school is a dog-eat-dog world, where only the strongest survive, something the new kid wouldn't understand. However Alex disagreed as he was taught that strength is something that cannot be done but with the unity of others, anything was possible. Jake chimed in as he mentioned how much of a genuine, albeit corny, hero Alex sounded to be, much to his embarrassment.

Angered, Mecha Mario sent out his army while the quartet fought against them with relative ease. However when Mario, Luigi, and Alex tried their best to use a Trio Attack on Mecha Mario only to for him to survive the attack and grab Mario, draining of his Spirit and reducing his body to that of a trophy.

Alex tried to use his Final Smash again, but the system was overclocked. As Mario's body continued to turn to stone, Alex began looking for a way to try and stop it. He soon spotted a stray black Cyber Gear on the ground, likely something that fell off of the Puppet Fighter. With not many options left, Alex threw the Cyber Gear at the monster, causing it to cry out in pain as much of it's data was extracted to create a brand new Cyber Gear, the Super Mario Cyber Gear.

Realizing what he could do, Alex asks Mario if he could lend him his power, to which he accepts as Alex transforms into Kamen Rider NXT Super Mario Gear Shift. With this new power, he is able to easily go toe-to-toe with the Puppet Fighter with some assistance from Luigi and Peach. After using the Cap-ture power of the Gear Shift to stun the monster via a falling pillar, Alex finished off the Puppet Fighter with the new Final Smash: the Mario Finale.

Once Mikey was freed, Alex soon helped him back onto his feet as the former Mecha Mario asked why he did not kill him then and there. He soon said that killing his oppnents was not something he liked doing, and that because he put a good fight, that's what earned him Alex’s respect. As Mikey smiled, the school returned to normal as Alex left the area.

Before he left however, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Cappy, and Polterpup bid him goodbye, but not before Peach briefly worried about “the boys” being hurt when Mikey opened the rift. Jake questioned if Peach meant the Toads, but Luigi told then he was referring to Mario and Peach’s sons and by extention, his nephews. The group are shocked by this as Mario and friends returned to their game world.

Afterwards, school came back a few days later, once the authorities came in and checked to see if the student body and faculty were okay from the attack, as Alex watched Mikey started to make friends with some kids before Bert came back, ready to bully him again. This time however Mikey stood up for himself as Alex came in as backup. This scared off the bully as Mikey agreed to keep Alex's secret as a Kamen Rider.

Upon hearing the term, Alex was confused as to why he was called a Kamen Rider, to which Katy noted that it was due to several news articles referring to him as such, namely one of the old Japanese elders of the town. Alex soon smiles as he combines the name of the prototype of the NXT system with the Kamen Rider name to create his alias: Kamen Rider NXT.

Meanwhile, Donkey Kong is seen standing on a few trees in the park, observing the people as Diddy Kong checks on him.

    • The English episode title is taken from the fourth game from the Mario and Luigi series
    • Mikey and Bart's character designs are based on Mario and Bowser from Super Mario respectively, with the latter being voiced by Bowser's voice actor Kevin James in the dub.
    • Peach is seen using the Star Rod from Paper Mario while Luigi uses the Poltergust G-00 from the then-upcoming Luigi's Mansion 3, with they and Alex performing actions from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
    • The attack Mario, Luigi, and Alex use is named a Trio Attack from Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, with Mario using his Firehand technique while Luigi uses the Thunderhand technique, both coming from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
    • The way Alex transforms into other Gear Shifts is reminiscent of the Yo-kai Watch Ogre from Yo-kai Watch Shadowside, with the Japanese version using the same phrase Touma Tsukinami said whenever he transformed.
    • Super Mario Gear Shift's transformation jingle, while reused from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, is based on the Level Clear theme from Super Mario Bros. It's Final Smash, the Mario Finale, was also ripped from Brawl.
    • The arm-cannon mode of the Chomp Smasher resembles the Bwahnzai Bill gun from Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, while the weapon itself is a visual nod to both the Bullet Bill and the hammers used by the Mario brothers in the Mario and Luigi series
    • Donkey Kong’s ending cameo is meant as an homage to a similar scene in the opening of Super Smash Bros. Melee where Donkey Kong performs a similar action.
