Bytes are foot soldiers of the Viron.
They are black-and-red humanoids with fangs and claws, appearing from gray square cartridges in droves. They do not seem capable of speech. It was revealed in chapter 4 that the Bytes are humans that have reached a level 2 Viron infection; destroying the Viron that infected an individual will reverse the transformation. As of chapter 7, at least some of the Bytes have been upgraded to possess electrical blasts.
